Drip trays for ventilation systems

Smitsair Luchttechniek’s drip catchers are important for capturing and removing water droplets from air flows. By installing these droplet catchers, air technology systems are effectively protected from moisture and damage caused by the suction of raindrops.

For high intake air velocities, our drip catchers can be built together with outdoor air grilles, efficiently discharging captured water through the lower blade of the grille. This avoids the need for additional features such as a connection to the rainwater drain, and helps improve the service life and efficiency of your ventilation system.

Types of drip catchers

We produce various types of drip collectors, each designed for specific applications and installation requirements.

  • DV-225/AL: a 2-stroke drip catcher with a construction depth of 120 mm. This version is suitable for applications where compact installation is required.
  • DV-325/AL: a 3-stroke drip catcher with a construction depth of 170 mm. This variant offers extra capacity for capturing water droplets in more severe conditions.

Advantages of Smitsair drip trays

  • Dimensions: all dimensions in height and width are available.
  • Flexible integration: drip catchers can easily be combined with outdoor air diffusers and with our BV-70VP.
  • Customisation options: available in various sizes and designs, including a special ship version.

Frequently asked questions about drip catchers

A droplet trap or droplet separator is an air-handling component designed to capture and drain water droplets from airflows.

The function of droplet separators is to capture water droplets from airflows and drain them away, thereby effectively protecting ventilation systems against moisture and potential damage caused by the intake of raindrops. Droplet separators are used, for example, in industrial environments or on ships.

At Smitsair, we offer two types of droplet separators: the DV-225/AL (2-stage) and the DV-325/AL (3-stage). Both types are supplied as standard in aluminium (optionally in 316 stainless steel) and can be made to measure.

Furthermore, both types of droplet separators can also be supplied in a marine version, in which the droplet separator drains water to the front via the underside of the housing.

Yes, depending on the situation, droplet traps can be combined with other ventilation components, such as outdoor air grilles or roof cowls.
