The outdoor air grilles are suitable for both air intake and air exhaust. The grilles can be installed on external walls as well as in interior spaces; they are also designed to protect your ventilation or air-conditioning system from external elements such as rain, leaves and birds. Below is an overview of the applications for our versatile outdoor air grilles:
Our grilles are optionally available in alternating shapes such as round, triangular, trapezoidal and diamond-shaped. Above are some images of special shapes, each with a unique look. The grilles in special shapes offer an aesthetic solution combined with efficient air passage.
Our standard materials for ventilation grilles are sendzimir-galvanised steel, aluminium and stainless steel 316. These high-quality materials offer excellent durability, corrosion resistance and versatility, suitable for various applications in both indoor and outdoor environments.
Our sound-absorbing ventilation grilles combine a rain-insulated grille with a sound-absorbing package. They are suitable for an application in cooling engine rooms, air treatment units, boiler houses, engine rooms and roof power stations, among others. Details of the damping effect can be found in the technical documentation.
Grilles that require both ventilation and security are ideally suited to the Smitsair burglar-resistant grille, type BV-70/WK2. The BV-70/WK2 model has been tested in accordance with the current standards NEN 5096 / EN 1627-1630 and meets burglary resistance class WK2 / RC2. These grilles combine a robust construction with efficient airflow and are suitable for applications where enhanced security is required.

What is an outdoor air grille?
An outdoor air grille is a component of a ventilation system that supplies or extracts air from a room or building. The grille allows air to flow through whilst protecting the system from external influences. An outdoor air grille primarily protects the system from rain, but also from leaves and birds.
How big should my outdoor air vent be?
The dimensions of an outdoor air grille depend on the specific requirements of your ventilation system, such as the required air flow rate, the available space and the permissible air velocity across the grille. Smitsair offers custom-made outdoor air grilles that can be fully tailored to your project.Natuurlijk helpen we je graag met het berekenen en kiezen van de best passende oplossing. What materials are used for the outdoor air vents?
Smitsair manufactures outdoor air grilles from high-quality materials such as Sendzimir galvanised steel, aluminium and stainless steel (316). These materials offer excellent durability and corrosion resistance, making them suitable for a wide range of applications in both indoor and outdoor environments.
Can mosquitoes get through an external air vent?
To prevent mosquitoes and other insects from entering through external air vents, the vents can be fitted with fly screens. This mesh forms an effective barrier, preventing insects from entering through the vent. Please note, however, that these fine-mesh screens with a small mesh size quickly become clogged with dirt and dust and must be cleaned regularly to keep the air passage clear.
What types of outdoor air vents are there?
Smitsair offers a wide range of outdoor air grilles suitable for various applications. Some examples include:
What if I need a door in a mesh wall as well?
In that case, our louvred doors offer a suitable solution. Smitsair louvred doors have been specially developed for use in (louvred) walls where both ventilation and access are required, such as in roof units or plant rooms.
